U.S. Ambassador visits Solyndra Solar System in Perth

Friday 12 August 2011

On Tuesday 09 August the United States Ambassador Jeffrey Bleich visited Newman College’s Marcellin campus to look at the school’s solar power system which is the largest installed to date in Australia as part of the National Solar Schools Program and the WA Solar Schools Program.

The system is of particular interest to the Ambassador since it incorporates the American panel Solyndra, an innovative solution that brings numerous benefits to flat rooftops, including fast and easy installation, non-penetrating mounting system, low distributed roof load, and superior wind and soiling resistance.

The 30kW system installed in May 2011 by UNLTD Solar includes three SMA Sunny Tripower 10,000TL inverters, 110 Solyndra 191W modules (21kW), and 46 Suntech 195W modules (9kW).

UNLTD Energy’s Commercial Project Manager Max Willrath assisted Newman College with the grant application, ensuring the school could gain the maximum benefit from the combined $125,000 National and State Solar Schools Program grant.

This solar project constitutes a leading example of sustainable commitment in Australia’s educational sector.

State Government
moves to end Solar Scheme

Wednesday 03 August 2011

The State Government has revealed that they have suspended the Solar Feed-in Tariff scheme. This is NOT A POSITIVE MOVE FOR THE
ENVIRONMENT OR THE PERSON SELLING POWER BACK TO THE GRID DURING PEAK TIMES.  Though we appreciate they may be working on a positive outcome, the industry should be included in these discussions.

On a positive note, PLEASE BE AWARE that this does not impact on the price of a Solar system or anyone who already has a system installed.  Unfortunately it will encourage people who sign up moving forward to consume their own power during the day rather than supplement the grid when it most needs support.

It appears the Government may buy power back at 7c from the owner of a Solar system and sell it to their neighbour for 22c!  We need to understand the logic.

This move has large implications and we have discussed the measures with the Sustainable Energy Association, other Solar companies, the shadow Minister of Energy and the Greens. We have been waiting to speak to Mr. Collier (Energy Minister) however he appears to be unavailable.

UNLTD Solar sincerely hopes the State Government is busy considering where to go next, as the suspension of the Feed in Tariff without any consultation is very concerning.

You can read two of related West Australian articles, Household solar scheme axed and Job losses loom as solar orders plummet online.

We look forward in anticipation to formal consultations with the State Government.

1 July 2011

UNLTD Solar was recently featured on the TV series Great Gardens TV which follows green-living guru Chris Ferreira as he turns a 1950s home into a showcase for sustainable living as part of his Great Sustainable Home Challenge.

According to the West Australian Newspaper 20 April 2011, Chris "was one of the few people not to laugh at Premier Colin Barnett last year when he suggested that WA homes do not need air-conditioners.

And to put his money where his mouth is, Chris has thrown out the air-conditioning units at his 1950s home in Hamilton Hill - just one of a raft of changes aimed at transforming the property into a model of green living."

The series is presented by the thewest.com.au and can be viewed online by clicking here.

UNLTD Solar Panels Survive Hail Storm

28 January 2011

In March 2010, an unusual and highly destructive hail storm hit Perth, Western Australia causing considerable damage to cars, houses and infrastructure.

Hail stones as large as 6cm in diameter, punctured holes through windows and left many cars battered with dents. Over 150,000 homes lost power and the cost of the damage was estimated to exceed $100 Million.

In the wake of this troubling event, we can reveal that not one of the more than 22,000 solar panels installed by UNLTD Solar was damaged during the storm. We owe this to the quality of our Suntech Panels, which use a sturdy, high-quality aluminium construction, tested to the highest standards to withstand extreme conditions.

In fact, Suntech undertakes some of the most rigorous testing in the industry. No less than 700 quality control professionals oversee a disciplined, 53-step quality control and inspection process to ensure that Suntech products meet the most stringent international standards.
