Feed-in Tariff Welcomed by WA Solar Industry

UNLTD Solar applauds WA Government on the introduction of a residential Feed-in Tariff.

Leading Western Australian solar energy provider, UNLTD Solar, has welcomed the State Government’s introduction of a Feed-In Tariff to encourage more homeowners to make the switch to renewable energy.

Following the Government’s $23 million commitment in the State Budget, The WA Minister of Energy, the Hon Peter Collier, today outlined the details of the Feed-in Tariff at a Marangaroo home being installed with solar energy system by UNLTD Solar.

The residential, net Feed-In Tariff will commence from 1 August 2010 and will provide an incentive for homeowners to install renewable energy systems to power their homes by allowing them to sell surplus electricity produced back to the grid.

UNLTD Solar Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kieron D’Arcy, welcomed the introduction of the Feed-in Tariff and said it will provide a boost to the WA solar and renewable energy installation industry.

“Western Australia is finally on par with rest of the country in establishing a greater incentive for homeowners to install grid-connected renewable energy systems to power their homes,” Mr D’Arcy said.

“Given that electricity prices are on the rise, the introduction of a residential Feed-in Tariff will significantly improve the payback period on a solar installation and provide people with an opportunity to eventually make money on their power bills.”

Mr D’Arcy said Western Australia offered the ideal climate for renewable energy installations.

“We are blessed with an abundance of sun in Western Australia so it makes perfect sense to take advantage of our climate and make our homes self sustainable,” he said.

“This is a step forward for our solar and renewable energy sector and hopefully a sign of more things to come in terms of providing greater incentives to adopt more environmentally sustainable solutions.”

PERTH ARENA sees the light
UNLTD Solar awarded the contract to supply and install one of the largest ever solar project undertaken in Western Australia.

Western Australian electricity retailer Synergy has awarded UNLTD Solar the contract to design and install a 110kw
solar energy system on Perth’s new iconic sports and entertainment complex, The Perth Arena.

The installation is part of The Perth Solar City program and will be one of the largest solar project undertaken in Western Australia, forming a crucial element of the Commonwealth and State Government funded initiative.

The state-of-the-art Perth Arena, a 14,000 seat, multi-purpose indoor venue, has been designed with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

UNLTD Solar Chief Executive Officer,
Mr Kieron D’Arcy, said the solar installation was expected to supply enough power to meet the Perth Arena’s base load electricity requirements.“The solar panel array will be an icon of renewable energy in Perth. With high visibility from Perth’s CBD buildings and the Mitchell freeway, more than 50,000 people will see this shining example of renewable energy every day,”
Mr D’Arcy said.

“2010 will be a landmark year for commercial uptake of solar energy in WA. The new, high efficiency, low cost solar technology available today coupled with increasing power prices create an ideal environment for companies of all sizes to make the switch to renewable solar energy, with a commercial payback of around 5 years.”
